Why did I choose Lebanon?
After returning from Japan, I made a promise to myself that I would travel to unconventional countries, at least by Indian standards. I usually prefer Asian countries as they are easier to get visas for, have less paperwork, and are more hospitable.
One of the reasons I chose Lebanon was to experience a country that the media often portrays as dangerous or unstable. It is true that Lebanon is currently politically and economically unstable, and that it was once known as the Paris of the Middle East before the crisis. The nightlife was better back then. However, does the situation change the behavior of the people? Yes, it does. Despite all of this, every Lebanese person I met was warm and supportive.
As Arijit (Twitter) aptly put it, I travel not just for leisure, but also to understand pain and suffering.
I chose Lebanon because it is in Asia, currently unstable, and unconventional for me.
